Our program is a vibrant cultural initiative encompassing murals, an art gallery, live music, and a soon-to-open youth-led culinary cafe, all aimed at representing and celebrating our rich cultural footprint and influence. Through art education and cultural awareness, we are committed to developing a sustainable plan that ensures the passing down of our heritage to future artists. We envision collaborating, coordinating, and leveraging resources to revive Black theater, amplify our voices, and share our compelling stories within our community, preserving and enriching our artistic traditions for generations.

ARTS RENAISSANCE PLAZA

THE HISTORY OF

BLACK ART

The black theatre movement was an artistic and dramatic movement that included drama which, initially, was concerned with the consciousness and identity of black americans, and a kind of movement which has had considerable influence outside america and which has in turn been affected by the black power and the civil rights movements.

During the 1960s the black theatre movement became progressively more radical and there was an increasing tendency among black playwrights to dissociate themselves from the white american theatre and put on performances for black audiences only.

Historically, black art during the harlem renaissance, black arts movement and the cultural hip hop movement brought together multiple art forms in the interest of promoting healing, nation & cultural building institutions to create black wealth and economic self sufficiency.

BLACK  ARTS

Through art education and cultural awareness we must create a plan to pass down to future artists. We want to be able to draw from black art traditions by collaborating, coordinating and leveraging their resources to bring black theater, our voices and stories back to the community.
