Million Dollar Construction Project in Homewood
Calling all Minority Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Laborers and Professional Services Providors
Jobs are coming to Homewood from the highly talked about new construction project the "Homewood Station Senior Housing". What does this mean to our community? First and foremost it means various types of jobs... including administration management, clerical support and construction jobs as well as vrious other opportunities
This meeting is being held to discuss the development and facilitation of a central clearinghouse database system that will be able to coordinate a high level of stored information used for collaborative purposes> This interchangeable infrastructure will be a central database collection which distributes information to its membership of those parties seeking employment opportunites as well as to those who have employment opportunities to offer
This system is [or will be] designed to meet the needs of both potential employers and employees by identifying those residents who are skilled and semi-skilled tradesmen [tradeswomen] and laborers as well as professional services providers, and MWBE companies. Another component of this system will identify those residents that needs specific job enhancement skills to improve their capacity and performance; through a comprehensive system of employment services that includes education, training and resource assistance; partakers will be able to access these services.
These workforces development components will enhance skill sets which can lead to employment and contracting opportunities for individuals and MWBE companies.
In essence, this system ultimately will be a single source for labor ready workforce that developers, employers and others can come to.
To build a community-driven association whose mission is to support the creation of economic opportunities for Blacks and other members in the construction industry, who would historically, and today would not get "fair share" in the construction industry.
This association is to provide a mechanism for private and public sectors to obtain qualified independent contractors in a wide variety of fields that can contribute to the economic security of minority owned businesses, contractors and laborers.
This association will develop a system for leveraging resources and increase the capacity of minority firms to maximize their bidding ability on construction projects which will result in the ability to go after greater participation in construction opportunities.
This project is the catalyst to developing a workforce development system that will provide a resident employment job bank to facilitate the direct employment of community residents and contracting of neighborhood businesses on construction projects
